Dr. Rajan’s real reason of death must be ascertained: Colleagues

Dr. Rajan KarmakarDoctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University and relatives are shocked at the sudden death of assistant professor of surgery Dr. Rajan Karmakar. His colleagues say that Dr. Rajan was in the operating theatre till 1am on Sunday (Mar 17).

Dr. Rajan was a 1996 batch student of Chattogram Medical College. A friend from that batch, Dr. Ripon Das, said, “We simply can’t believe that our friend has died of a heart attack; we think this is an unnatural death.”

He faced a traumatic event in his family life before and was beaten up; at that time, he was admitted to the ICU of Square Hospital, informed his friend.

“On Saturday night, Rajan was at the surgery till late and then went home at Indira Road; around 3am in the morning, his wife called Rajan’s mother and said some nasty things.”

Soon after, we heard that he has died of a heart attack, added Ripon.

Rajan was meritorious and a person with a compassionate heart and soon after the news of his death, around 100 doctors came to the hospital including the VC of BSMMU.

“We want a proper autopsy which will reveal the actual cause of the death.”

Emergency doctor of Square Hospital, Dr. Asaduzzaman, said, “He was brought at 3:45pm but was already dead on arrival; after ECG we could not get any activity of the heart.”

Wife of late Dr. Rajan Karmakar is assistant professor, Dr. Krishna Rani Mazumder, of the surgery department of BSMMU.

Rajan’s body has been kept at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
