Two days after Ilias Kanchan passed security check with gun in his bag at the Dhaka airport, the civil aviation ministry claims the former movie actor’s account of the incident given to the media is “untrue”.
“Ilias Kanchan has made untrue claims to the media repeatedly in an effort to protect his image,” the ministry said in a statement on Thursday (Mar 7).
Kanchan, a champion of road safety campaign, told the media that he was surprised after the baggage scanner failed to detect his licensed pistol, until he noticed the officials.
He was flying to Chattogram from Dhaka by a Novoair flight.
“Kanchan’s firearm was detected at the anti-hijacking point of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s domestic terminal,” reads the civil aviation ministry.
It claimed that it was the security personnel who requested him to follow the proper procedure for flying in possession of a firearm.
