His remarks came on Wednesday (Mar 6) while addressing an open discussion on risky business endeavours at Old Dhaka.

“The chemical warehouses were meant to be shifted following the Nimtali fire. However, it didn’t happen for whatever reasons, but, we must move from here,” he said before adding, “No one can be forcibly moved from here without taking proper steps.”

He also said that the Old Dhaka businessmen have their contributions to the economy.

“The types of businesses have expanded in the last nine years and we should have been careful. We should have kept in mind that businesses must move from here,” added Rahman.

A list of 29 flammable elements has been prepared, he said adding that more assessment is ongoing to find if there are other risky materials being housed at the Old Dhaka areas.

Rahman also assured that businessmen, who don’t store flammable materials, won’t face the drive.
