HC hands RAJUK staffer 11 years in jail over graft

Supreme Court of Bangladesh. BANGLATRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainThe High Court (HC) has sentenced an employee of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) to 11-year imprisonment in a graft case lodged over destroying or hiding 57 official files.
The HC bench of justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and KM Hafizul Alam handed the order, accepting an appeal of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against a lower court judgement that had acquitted RAJUK steno clerk Md Shafiullah from the charges.
The court also ordered him to surrender before a lower court within 15 days.
According to case documents, Shafiullah had misused his authority with evil intention and destroyed or hide 57 files regarding permission to raise buildings.
ACC filed the case against him with the city’s Motijheel police on Oct 10, 2013. But he was acquitted from the charges by the Special Judges Court-7 of Dhaka on Nov 21, 2017.
On Apr 7, 2018, the ACC move to the HC challenging the lower court’s verdict.
