The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) says they have busted a Crystal Meth (crystal methamphetamine) lab in Dhaka.
A team of DNC conducted a raid in the capital’s Jigatola area in the wee hours of Wednesday (Feb 27) and found the drug laboratory at the basement of a six-storey building, its Director General Jamal Uddin told a media call.
“A tip-off led the arrest of drug dealer Rakib, who was in possession of ‘ice' pills, from the city’s Mohammadpur on Tuesday. The lab in Jagatala was busted upon information gleaned from him,” said the DNC chief.

'Ice' is the street name for crystal meth.


Apart from crystal meth, ‘MDMA’ were also seized from the lab, said Jamal before adding that the drugs were found in Bangladesh for the first time.

MDMA or Methyl enedioxy methamphetamine, commonly known as Ecstasy, is a psychoactive drug primarily used as a recreational drug, according to Wikipedia.
DNC Assistant Director Khorshed Alam said that they have seized a huge amount of chemicals used to manufacture crystal meth and ecstasy from the lab.
The DNC, however, could not arrest the lab owner, who has been as identified as 32-year-old Hasib Mohammad Rashid, according to an official who took part in the raid.
“The lab was busted following a two month investigation. Hasib, who ran the lab, used to study in Malaysia. His family had put him into rehab for drug abuse,” he told Bangla Tribune.
The building’s caretaker Jahangir Alam, 59, has been detained for questioning.
