Task forces to remove Old Dhaka chemical warehouses

PHOTO: Mahmud Hossain OpuTwo task forces will be formed to remove the risky chemical factories and warehouses from Old Dhaka, said Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Khokon.
His remarks came on Monday (Feb 25) during an emergency meeting with the concerned authorities at Nagar Bhaban.
“We are going to form two double-layered task forces for evicting the unsafe chemical warehouses,” Khokon said.
He added that the first layer will comprise of high ranking officials, who will monitor the overall situation, asses the pace of the task forces and take decisions accordingly.
“The second layer of the task force will remain on the ground.”
He further said that 15 wards have already been marked as risky and the task forces will focus on 2-3 wards at a time, starting from Thursday (Feb 28).
“The magistrates working under the task forces will take legal actions against the risky chemical factories and warehouses,” and added that utility services to such buildings will be cut off.
