Nine Chawkbazar victims still in critical condition

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).Nine victims of the Chawkbazar tragedy undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) are still in critical condition, said Dr Samanta Lal, Coordinator of the burns unit.

“They are undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as they are still not out of danger,” he told Bangla Tribune on Sunday (Feb 23).

Their windpipes have been damaged in the fire, added Lal.

Among the nine ICU patients Anwar Hossain sustained 28 percent burn injuries, Mahamudul Hossain 13 percent, Rezaul 43 percent, Shohag 60 percent, Zakir 35 percent, Mozaffar 30 percent, Helal 16 percent, Selim 14 percent and Salauddin 20 percent burn injuries.

On Wednesday (Feb 20), a deadly blaze ripped through Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar, claiming at least 70 lives and injuring at least over 50 people.

A total of 37 fire-fighting units battled for at least 15 hours to douse the flames.
