YouTube Salman Muqtadir has been warned by police on Tuesday (Feb 19), as the government steps up its campaign for a safer Internet, says the telecoms and ICT minister.
Salman, who regularly posts contents on social media platforms, recently drew flack over his music video which many deemed as ‘indecent’.
In what is believed to be the second case of its kind to hit the entertainment industry, Salman was ordered to attend a Dhaka police station on Sunday and told to take down the music video from the internet, which police described as ‘vulgar’.
It happens a day after social media star Sanai Mahbub was called in by police and “counselled” by officers to remove her provocative pictures from the social media.
Telecoms and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar told Bangla Tribune that YouTuber Salman was "warned" by the Dhaka police cybercrime unit officers.
“He has been told to keep online platforms clean,” Jabbar said before adding that Salman will face arrest for any further indecent contents.
“Our aim is to create a safe Internet for everyone … Whoever hampers it will face consequences," he told Bangla Tribune.
Bangladesh has launched a crackdown on Internet pornography in recent weeks, with telecoms regulators ordering service providers to block over 10,000 adult, betting and social media websites.
Bangla Tribune couldn’t reach Salman for comment over phone or messaging apps.
