Five more BNP candidates challenge polls result with tribunal

The BNP, which boycotted the 2014 election, took part in the 2018 national election under the Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Front coalition. FILE PHOTOAnother five candidates of BNP, who contested the Dec 30 polls, have filed separate lawsuits with the election tribunal on Wednesday (Feb 17).
So far, 79 BNP candidates have moved to the tribunal since the party started the process for a legal battle over the alleged rampant irregularities reported during the national polls.
The election tribunal is a High Court bench designated to address matters concerning the election.
On Sunday, BNP candidate of Bagura 5 Golam Mohammad Siraj, AEM Khalilur Rahman of Jaipurhat 2, Md Mahmudul Haque Rubel of Sherpur 3, Md Abu Ahmed Akand of Mymensingh 4 and Abul Hossain Khan of Barishal 6 filed lawsuits.
On Feb 12, BNP filed lawsuits with the tribunal for the first time challenging the polls result. 

At least one BNP candidate from all the 64 districts is expected to start lawsuits in line with a decision taken during a key party meeting on Feb 9, which was attended by acting Tarique Rahman through video conferencing from London.
