Children and grandchildren of freedom fighters (FFs) have blocked Dhaka’s Shahbagh demanding the reinstatement of 30 percent quota facilities for them in government jobs.
Protesters under the banner of ‘Muktijoddhar Santan and Projonmo’ took to the street around 6:30pm and blocked the intersection, halting vehicular movement on the city’s one of the busiest intersection.
Their other demands include ensuring punishment of those defamed the Father of the Nation, his family members and freedom fighters, confiscating the property of Razakars, disqualifying their children for government jobs and terminating those currently in service, ensuring freedom fighters’ constitutional recognition and enacting their family protection law, and proportionately increasing the age limit of the children and descendants of freedom fighters for government jobs.
Police, however, tried to request protester to clear the roads, which they didn’t respond.
“No indiscipline has happened and we are trying,” said Zafar Ali, who is the inspector (investigation) of Shahbag police.
