South African High Commission in Colombo will not accept visa application from any Bangladeshi from Mar 1.
The visa processing will be administered by its mission in Delhi.
“The decision has been conveyed by the South African authority,” said an official.
South African did not tell us officially why the decision was taken, but informally shared that they detected some anomalies and manipulation, he said.
The bilateral trade between Bangladesh and South Africa crossed the $100 million mark and it is in Pretoria’s favour.
According to the Bangladesh mission in South Africa, in 2012-13 fiscal, total trade was $110m with Bangladesh export amounting to $40 million.
In South Africa, a good number of Bangladeshis are also living.
Few Western countries including Britain also process visa application of Bangladeshis in Delhi.
