Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Zahurul Islam city CCTV control room at Aftabnagar in the capital on Tuesday (Jan 29).Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has underlined the need for digital monitoring to control crime in the city.
“Information of 8 million citizens is preserved in the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) data base.”
He made the comments on Jan 29 while inaugurating the Zahurul Islam city CCTV control room at Aftabnagar in the capital.
To ensure sustainable security, we have gathered information of citizens – a practice followed in major cities of the world, he said and added, “Through this, we can trace people easily if a crime has been committed.”
The scourge of muggings and other crimes that render the victim unconscious has been tackled successfully because we now use modern technology, he added.
“Thousands of CCTV cameras have been placed in Gulshan, Banani,, Niketan, Baridhara and crimes in these areas have fallen to almost zero.”
As part of that drive, we are launching 100 CCTVs in Zahirul Islam city of Aftabnagar so that the public may feel secured, added the police officer.
