21 jailed for drug abuse in DhakaA mobile court in Dhaka has sentenced 21 people to different jail terms on substance abuse, says a media release by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Of the convicts, Sobuj Chandra Malakar (25), Jewel Rana (26) were jailed for one month; Al-Amin (19) for nine month, Abul Bepari (57) and Sobuj Miah (40) for two month and Chondon Biswas (20), Momin Hossain (30), Khorsed Alam Khokon (31) and Tapan Roy (20) for three month.

Jalal (28), Ashraful Hossain (38), Lal Chan (30), Al-Amin Khan (18), Shanu Miah (18), Arif (22), Rakib Hossain (18), Osman Goni (42), Shahidul Islam (48), Hanif (38), Shaon (40) and Mojammel Hossain (28) received six month imprisonment each.

RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam, assisted by RAB-2 team, conducted drives in the capital’s Tejgaon area on Sunday.

The court detained the addicts and handed them jail term between one and nine months.

Speaking to Bangla Tribune, RAB-2 Assistant Director Robiul Islam said, “RAB is operating a nationwide operation against drugs as per Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina’s instruction.”

Hasina gave the elite crime busting force a set of instruction at its Raising Day program earlier this month.

All convicts were sent to Dhaka Central Jail, according to release.
