Cyclone ‘Pabuk’ might trigger cold wave

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant warning signal no two as cyclonic storm ‘Pabuk’, that made landfall in Thailand is moving west-northwestwards.
The storm is currently lying over Andaman seas and adjoining areas and the Bangladesh Meteorological Department is predicting the cold wave across to intensify.
The warning read that the as of Saturday, the cyclone is lying 1,570 km southeast of Chattogram, 1,487 km southeast of Cox’s Bazar, 1,710 km southeast of Mongla and 1,625 km southeast of Payra port.
‘Pabuk’ is expected to intensify and move in a north or northwesterly direction. The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts. The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.
According to the weather report, a mild to moderate cold Wave is sweeping over the regions of Tangail, Faridpur, Mymensingh, Srimangal, Rajshahi, Pabna, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Jashore, Khulna,Shatkuira and Barishal and it may continue.
The January weather forecast says that 2-3 mild cold waves ranging between 8-10 degree Celsius may sweep over the country while two of them might intensify to 4-6 degree Celcius.
Meanwhile, according to AccuWeather the coastal areas of Thailand is experiencing heavy rainfall, damaging winds and strong waves. One person was killed in the storm and it’s expected to trigger widespread, dangerous flash flooding and increase the threat of landslides.
