Tureen Afroz will face action if found guilty: ICT chief prosecutor

Tureen Afroz, whose cases at the ICT include that against Jamaat-e-Islami ideologue Ghulam Azam, has denied any wrongdoing.The prosecution wing of the International Crimes Tribunal, responsible for trying the 1971 war criminals, is probing one of its prosecutors Tureen Afroz for conspiring with a suspect, said Chief Prosecutor Ghulam Arieff Tipoo.
“She will definitely face action if found guilty,” he told the media on Thursday, a day after the prosecution wing forwarded documents and evidences over the allegations to the law ministry.
Prosecutor Afroz, who has been taken off from all cases, stands accused of holding a secret meeting with war crimes suspect Wahidul Haque.
A retired police officer, Haque is now behind the bars after police arrested him on Apr 24 following a warrant issued by the tribunal.
Late last year, Afroz allegedly met Haque, a former chief of the National Security Intelligence, to tip him off about the imminent arrest as well as demanded money from him.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Chief Prosecutor Tipoo said Afroz has been a prosecutor in several major war crimes trial.
“Steps will be taken based on the findings of the probe. She will face actions, if found guilty,” he said at the ICT premises following the war crimes verdict of Mymensingh’s Reaz Fakir.
