The hearing of arguments in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case against BNP chief Khaleda Zia has been rescheduled as the jail authorities could not bring her to the court due to medical conditions.
The Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-5 rescheduled the hearing for Jun 4, defence counsel Sanaullah Mia told Bangla Tribune on Wednesday. It also extended her bail until the next hearing.
The same court has sentenced her to five years in jail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Feb 8.
A three-time prime minister, Khaleda stands accused of embezzling Tk 31.54 million in the Charitable Trust case by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The graft watchdog filed in the case in 2011, against five BNP leaders, including Khaleda and submitted charges in court in January 2012.
The trial began in March 2013 after the court indicted the defendants.
The others accused in the case are Khaleda’s former political secretary Harris Chowdhury, his former personal assistant Ziaul Islam Munna, who is now the acting director (naval security and traffic) of BIWTA, and former Dhaka City mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s aide Monirul Islam Khan.
