The High Court did not give any restrictive injunction on the candidature of 25 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders. Consequently, they can take part in the upcoming elections. The HC has also issued a rule asking why Election Commission’s (EC), decision should not be declared illegal.
The writ petition was presented by Barrister Tania Amir while the EC was represented by Advocate Yasin Khan and the state by Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju.
Previously an appeal was made at the EC, challenging the legality of the 25 Jamaat candidates, 22 competing under sheaf of paddy and three as independent.
