FILE PHOTO/REUTERSQuestions have been asked over the standard of the B Ed, Bachelor of Education certificate which is required to begin career as a teacher.

Several suicides of students, involvement of teenagers with deviant gangs plus the deterioration of teacher-student relation have been identified as being the results of a weak teacher training syllabus.

Specialists and psychologists have said that teachers’ instruction method has to change too.

They also said that, trainings cannot teach a teacher about students but can only give a guideline.

Currently, teacher training for SSC level is provided at National Academy of Education Management, NAEM, madrasa teacher training institutes and for college teachers at five HSTTI colleges.

However, the current teacher training does not have a clear guideline about how teachers should treat students.

Teacher of Viqarunnisa School and College, Syeda Tanjina Imam, told Bangla Tribune, “Every year, a new set of students come and we need to keep in mind that each child has unique psychology.”

We simply cannot categorise their problems and follow a set formula as solution, she cautioned.

Psychologist Tajul Islam says, “But teachers must be given special training on child psychology. During adolescence, children are sensitive and at that time, even the smallest disappointment may trigger extreme emotions, leading to suicide.”
