BNP candidate demands withdrawal of Kalaroa OC

Kalaroa OC Maruf Ahmed. PHOTO: CollectedOpposition alliance Oikya Front candidate for Satkhira-1 Habibul Islam Habib has issued a letter to the Election Commission demanding the withdrawal of Kalaroa police OC Sheikh Maruf Ahmed for asking votes for ‘boat.’
According to the letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nurul Huda on Thursday (Dec 21) Ahmed had asked people to vote for the Awami Legue-led Grand Alliance pick Mostafa Lutfullah during a program at Kalaroa Upazila.
Opposition alliance Oikya Front candidate for Satkhira-1 Habibul Islam HabibIt further read that he spoke ill of the ‘paddy sheaf’ candidate along with the AL and Grand Alliance leaders and that the video of his speech has gone viral on social media.
“Such behaviour on an OC’s part clearly violates section 77of Representation of the People’s Order and the Election Officers (Special Provisions) Act, 1991,” the letter read.
Part of the letter addressed to the CECHabib complained that the polls atmosphere in the Satkhira-1 constituency was hostile at the moment with OC Ahmed not lifting a finger against the vandalizing of BNP activists’ houses and foiling of their polls campaign.
He claimed that he himself was forced to leave his house due to the insecurity.

Meanwhile, Ahmed has denied the allegations saying that the video was “edited and false.”
“I had given a speech during a program at Shilpakala. The vocals of that video has been changed,” he told Bangla Tribune.
