“Awami League has pledged to re-establish the four basic state principles of the 1972 constitution,” the platform’s General Secretary Rana Dasgupta said during a conference at the Press Club on Friday (Dec 21).
“I completely agree that the existing constitution does not ensure the equal rights of the minorities,” he said, adding that the constitution that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibir Rahman drew up recognized the minorities as equal citizens of the country
According to him, the Awami League’s pledges were the most democratic, secular and progressive but he thanked the major political parties for recognizing the equal rights and dignity of the minorities in their polls manifestos.
He hoped that whichever party takes office in the upcoming polls will make good on the promises that they made in their manifestos.
