Eight indicted in Holey Artisan attackA court in Dhaka has framed charges against eight militants in connection with the grisly attack to Dhaka’s Gulshan cafe in 2016.
It also fixed Dec 3 to begin deposition of witnesses.
Judge Md Mujibur Rahman of the Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Tribunal handed the orders on Monday (Nov 26) after concluding the hearing on charges framing, court clerk Hafizur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
The eight indicted are — Aslam Hossain alias Rashed alias Abu Zarra alias Rush, Hadisur Rahman Sagar, Mizanur Rahman alias Bara Mizanm, Rakibul Hasan Regan, Jahangir Alam alias Rajib alias Rajib Gandhi, Abdus Sabur Khan (Hasan) alias Sohel Mahfuz, Shariful Islam Khaled and Mamunur Rashid Ripon.
Six of the accused are now behind bars.
“The tribunal issued arrest warrants against the two fugitives — Shariful Islam Khaled and Mamunur Rashid Ripon,” said Hafizur Rahman.
On Aug 8, the tribunal accepted charge sheet in the case.
It also dropped the name of Abul Hasanat Rezaul Karim as no evidence was found against the former North South University teacher.
On Jul 23, the investigation officer of the case Inspector Humayun Kabir of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit submitted the charge sheet with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court
The charge sheet dropped names of 13 more accused as they were killed during law enforcers’ drives at different places on different dates.
Armed militants stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan area in Dhaka and killed 20 hostages - mostly foreign nationals, on Jul 1, 2016.
