A general view of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. BANGLA TRIBUNE/file photoThe High Court has turned down a petition filed over “fictitious cases” against activists of BNP and other political parties across the country.
A one-man HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukdar passed the order on Sunday (Nov 25) after hearing on it.
On Nov 22, the HC set Sunday to pass its order over the writ petition as it started hearing the plea on Nov 20.
On Oct 9 The HC delivered a split order on the writ petition, which was submitted on Sept 23.
Following the split order, the matter was sent to Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain who assigned the new bench to dispose it of.
Three pro-BNP lawyers, who are also accused in the cases, filed the petition, seeking the court's directives on the government to form a probe body to investigate the legitimacy of the around 4,000 cases.
The pro-BNP lawyers are: Advocate Khandker Mahbub, Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, and Advocate Sanaullah Mia.
The petition said 4,000 fictitious cases had been filed across the country in September against leaders and activists of BNP and other political parties in order to create panic ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election.
