Indictment in Holey Artisan attack on Nov 26

Accused of the Holey Artisan attack.A Dhaka court has fixed Nov 26 for the hearing of indictment of suspects in the 2016 Holey Artisan terror attack.

Anti-terrorism Tribunal Judge Mujibur Rahman fixed the date on Wednesday (Nov 14), when the prosecutor filed copies of newspaper ads on the fugitives in the case, court clerk Hafizur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.

On Aug 8, the same court accepted charge sheet against eight militants in the case.

On Jul 23, investigative officer, Counter Terrorism Unit Inspector Humayun Kabir filed the charge sheet with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court and the matter was transferred to the tribunal on Jul 26.

Police pressed charges against 21 suspects, but the names of 13 of them were dropped as they died. Eight of them were killed during ant-terror raids and the five attackers died when army commandos raided the upscale cafe in Dhaka’s Gulshan on the morning of Jul 2, 2016 some nine hours after the incident unfolded.

Six of the eight living suspects are in jail while the remaining two are fugitives to justice.

They are – Aslam Hossain alias Rashed alias Abu Zarra alias Rash, who was a key aide to the mastermind of the brutal attack Tamim Chowdhury, neo JMB leader and arms supplier of the attack Hadisur Rahman Sagar, neo JMB weapons unit chief Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan, Rakibul Hasan Regan, Jahangir Alam alias Razib alias Razib Gandhi, one of the key planners of the attack Abdus Sabur Khan (Hasan) alias Sohel Mahfuz, Shariful Islam and Mamnur Rashid.

Shariful Islam and Mamunur Rashid are absconding.

Twenty-two people, including 17 foreigners and two police officers were killed in the attack on the night of Jul 1 in 2016 at the eatery in Dhaka’s diplomatic enclave of Gulshan.

The next morning, army commandos raided the cafe when the five attackers were killed.
