The site with the URL address of banglatriibune.com (adding an extra ‘i’ to the name) used several Bangla Tribune contents with a fake report on BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami’s election negotiations as the lead news.Scammers have uploaded a lookalike Bangla Tribune website aiming to disseminate fake news.

The website uses the names of Bangla Tribune Editor Zulfiqer Russell and Publisher Kazi Anis Ahmed.

A Bangla Tribune spokesperson said that the website was revealed when it received a rejoinder of a new which was never published.

The matter has been reported to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and the Cyber Security and Crime Division of the Dhaka metro police, he added.

“We are looking into the matter,” said Cyber Security division's Deputy Commissioner Md Alimuzzaman.

It has been found the domain was registered on Sept 21 under the name ‘Domain Admin’ with the US address of 10 Corporate Drive, Burlington, MA, US.

The email address used to register the domain is [email protected].

The website was last updated on Nov 4, when the registration details were last checked.
