Faisal Arefin DipanThe deadline for submitting police's report on the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan has been extended once again.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi ordered the police to submit its report on May 27 after the police’s investigating officer failed to submit his findings on Monday.
The investigation officer has been allowed several extensions, Mahmudur Rahman, a court recording officer.
Dipan was hacked to death at Jagriti Prokashoni's office at Shahbagh's Aziz Super Market on Oct 31, 2015.
Assailants, on the same day, entered the office of Suddhaswar publishers at Lalmatia. They hacked and injured three people, including its proprietor Rashid Chowdhury Tutul. All of them, however, survived the attack.
These publishers had released books by secular author Avijit Roy who was killed by machete-wielding attackers earlier that year.
Police believe the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), an outlawed extremist group, was behind the attacks on Dipan and Tutul. The ABT was also found to be involved in the killings of several secular bloggers, including Roy.
Three people have been arrested over Dipan's murder. The case was filed with Shahbagh police by his wife Dr Razia Rahman. The suspects are Mainul Hasa Shamim, Abdus Samad aka Abdus Sabur and Khairul Islam.
Among them, Shamim has confessed to the murder under Section-164. Sabur has been remanded by police several times.
