Political talksAmid the series of scheduled talks with political parties, the ruling Awami League has reached out to the Leftists parties in an effort to invite them for talks at the Ganabhaban.
Coordinator of Left Democratic Alliance, the coalition floated in July, Saiful Haque told Bangla Tribune that the Awami League has contacted them.
“I was reached over the phone from the Awami League. I told them we will let them know after the coalition’s meeting on Thursday,” he said.
People familiar with the matter said Awami League’s Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil made the phone call around 8pm on Wednesday and requested the Leftist parties to join the dialogue.
He also requested the coalition to send a letter calling for the talks.
Ukil, however, declined to comment when Bangla Tribune reached him over the phone.
In July this year, eight leftist parties, including the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BaSaD) and Ganasanghati Andolan, floated the new alliance with an eye on the parliamentary elections.
The other parties in the Left bloc are the Biplobi Workers Party or Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh (RWPB), the BaSaD (Marxist), the United Communist League of Bangladesh, Ganatantrik Biplobi Party and Samajtantrik Andolan.
