University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), one of the renowned universities of the country, has celebrated its 14 years anniversary at its main campus in Dhanmondi.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was the chief guest of the event, held at the university auditorium on Tuesday.
The 14-years anniversary celebration started with a video documentary which featured an eventful journey of the varsity and its students.
Speaker Chaudhury said, “The documentary clearly showcases that the ULAB students are ruling across a big domain in both the local and International companies. This is the strength of an educational institution.”
Trustee Board Member of ULAB and National Professor Rafiqul Islam said, “When you talk about ULAB, the name of Kazi Shahid Ahmed comes along who was the founder of Ajker Kagoj. This university is the result of his dream.”
“This is the only university of the country where studying some core subjects including Bangla, English, Computer Science, World Civilization and Sustainable Development is mandatory,” he said before adding, “The University Grants Commission has made our Bangla Syllabus mandatory for all private varsities.”
Vice President of ULAB Trustee Board, Dr Kazi Anis Ahmed said, “For a university, 14 years is not that long a time. However, we passed a wonderful 14 years.”
Recalling how the journey began, he said, “ULAB was established by our family. My brothers and I had the opportunity to get all the benefits of liberal arts education in the US. Education system in our country is a bit different. This university started its journey with the aim of providing a liberal arts education platform for the Bangladeshi students.”
Initially many had confusions about the term liberal arts, he said before adding that people have started to understand the concept.
Anis Ahmed said, “We have become successful in our endeavour to introduce a new education system. ULAB always strived to create new fields. I can’t finish thanking everyone who deserves appreciation in our 14 years journey.”
“Our young generation are the change makers. They are the ones who will bring change,” he added.
Trustee board member of ULAB and Director of Bangladesh Cricket Board Kazi Inam Ahmed handed honorary crest to the chief guest.
Trustee board member Taheerah Haq, Special Advisor to the board Professor Imran Rahman, ULAB Vice Chancellor Dr HM Jahirul Haque, Pro Vice Chancellor Samsad Mortuza and Registrar Akhter Ahmed were present among others.
