The High Court has instructed the government to provide first class division facility to Mainul Hosein, arrested for defamation on Oct 22.
A dual bench of justices, Sheikh Hassan Arif and Razik-Al-Jalil, passed the verdict Monday.
Dr Kamal Hossain and Khondokar Mahbub Hossain stood for Mainul while Attorney General Mahbube Alam moved against the petition.
Barrister Mainul was arrested on Oct 22 last from the home of Jatiya Oikyo Front leader, ASM Abdur Rab.
On Oct 16 last, Mainul made derogatory comments about female journalist Masuda Bhatti on TV, which triggered a social media storm.
Since Mainul did not apologise in public for his insensitive comment after four days had elapsed, Bhatti lodged a defamation case. However, in the same issue barrister Mainul was sued in Kurigram and Rangpur.
After being arrested, barrister Mainul was brought to court on Oct 23 Oct and the chief magistrate sent him to jail. On that evening, he was taken to Keraniganj prison.
