One Uttara fire victim dies

A child and four women were among the injured, who were rushed to the DMCH after the fire-fighters they doused the fire during early hours on Saturday (Oct 13)One of the eight victims in the Uttara fire incident has died at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The victim, identified as Azizul, 27, succumbed to his burn injuries around 10:15am on Saturday (Oct 13), DMCH police unit’s Bachchu Mia told media.

Seven others, injured in the fire, were identified as Abdulla— a minor boy, Anju, Urni, Afroza, Purnima, Sagar and Dabliu.

Five among them are in critical condition, said Mia.   

The incident took place during early hours on Saturday in an apartment located at a 3-storey building’s ground floor.

Earlier, Fire Service official Md Shafiqul Islam told Bangla Tribune that a fire from leaking gas line was reported around 3:30am On Saturday from Bapari Para area in the capital’s Uttara.

A child and four women were among the injured, who were rescued and rushed to the DMCH after the fire-fighters they doused the fire, he said.

"Most of the victims worked as garment workers," added Islam.
