As many as 248,322 applications have been submitted against 1,378 posts of assistant teachers at Government Secondary Schools, according to a circular by the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The PSC released a job-circular on Sept 9 and accepted applications till 6 pm on Monday (Oct 8).
This is the first time the PSC has released this recruitment notice since the assistant teacher’s post at Government Secondary Schools were given second grade status.
The notification said that 365 Bengali teachers, 106 English teachers, 205 Mathematics teachers, 83 Social Science teachers, 10 Physics teachers, 118 Biology teachers, Eight Business Education teachers, 54 Geography teachers, 92 Art teachers, 93 Physical Education teachers, 172 Religion teachers and 72 assistant teachers for agricultural education will be appointed.
