Khaleda’s treatment possible at BSMMU Hospital

Physiotherapy session for Khaleda is likely to start from TuesdayThe Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital says it has all the facilities for treatment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

“We have a separate department for her ailment (arthritis),” BSMMU Hospital Director Abdullah Al Harun told the media on Tuesday.

Describing the former prime minister’s condition as stable, he said, “The members of the medical board will examine Khaleda on Wednesday. The hospital has also got an idea of what kind of medical test she may have to undergo.”

Harun said that physiotherapy session for Khaleda is likely to start from Tuesday.

Responding to a query, he said, “Khaleda will recuperate significantly if she gets proper treatment.

On Monday, doctor said Khaleda Zia suffering from multiple medical conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.

“As the rheumatoid arthritis, from which she has been suffering for the last 30 years, has not been kept under control, it has triggered a host of symptoms such as frozen shoulder and deformity in the left hand,” said the chief of the medical board MA Jalil Chowdhury.

A three-time premier, Khaleda has been sentenced to a five years in jail term for in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Since Feb 8, she was serving her term at old jailhouse in Dhaka until Oct 6, when she was admitted to the BSMMU Hospital following a High Court order.
