A court in Dhaka has deferred the verdict of AL MP Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony who stands accused of killing two people.
According to the case documents, in April 2015 an autorickshaw driver Yakub Ali and rickshawpuller Abdul Hakim were shot in a random firing from a Land Cruiser Prado at the capital’s Eskaton.
Hakim died the next day and Yakub succumbed to death more than a week later.
A murder case was filed by Hakim’s mother with Ramna police station.
Investigations led the Detective Branch to Rony, who allegedly opened fire from his licensed gun under the influence of drugs.
Rony was arrested on May 31 of the same year and a month later was charged by the DB with the killings.
The ruling MP’s son faces life imprisonment, if found guilty.
This is the second time the verdict in this case has been deferred as the court has agreed to hear a fresh testimony from a witness in the case.
During a hearing on Sept 19, the court set Thursday (Oct 4) as the date of the verdict.
However, the investigating officer in the case, DB Sub-Inspector Dipak Kumar Das could not produce the call list of the defendant during his testimony.
The court has ordered him to produce the call list on Oct 17, which will allow the defence attorney to cross-examine him again.
