Consequently, police vehicles, motor cycles are parked on the road. Impounded vehicles are also kept in front of the building, which create a traffic jam.
Dakhinkhan police Acting OC Tapan Chandra Saha says: “Land has been allotted for the police station and soil test has already been done. We hope all facilities will be available at the new police station.”
At the police station, a signboard in front of the duty officer, reads: “No money required to lodge a general diary or GD.”
Sub Inspector Md. Abdul Wadud, says: “Many people come with complaints; in case of complex matters, we take them after investigation.”
From 8 am till 8 pm, 16 GD’s have been lodged, he informed.
Since house rent is relatively low in Dakhinkhan, most residents are floating with majority of complaints related to repression and persecution of women. Drug related cases have fallen recently.
Inspector Shafiqul Gani told Bangla Tribune: “We have adequate police members here and work in 13 beats.
A sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector along with constables are assigned to each of the beat, he said.
In police terminology, a beat is the territory and time that an officer patrols.
Beat policing utilises the close relationship with the community members within the assigned beat to strengthen police effectiveness and encourage cooperative efforts to make a safer community.
