Passport forgery: ACC to press charges against 71 people

In July 2016, the ACC sued three DIP officials and 18 passport holders over passport fraud.The Anti-Corruption Commission will bring charges against 71 people, including two directors of Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) for forging official passports for 65 individuals.
The DIP directors are Munshi Muyeed Ikram and former director SM Nazrul Islam.
“The commission approved the charge-sheet in the case after ACC Assistant Director M Shafi Ullah filed the investigation report on Thursday,” said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhatacharjee.
The charge-sheet will be submitted before court under sections 409/420/467/471 and 109 of the Penal Code and section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

In July 2016, the ACC sued three DIP officials and 18 passport holders over passport fraud.
According to the ACC investigation, 65 official passports were issued between December 2014 and May 2015 by forged no objection certificates from different government departments.
Many of the passport holders still enjoy the privileges of official passport.
In April 2015, the Turkish government wrote to Bangladesh foreign ministry informing that it had detained three Bangladeshis who enjoyed the privileges of official passports even though they were not the government employees.
Later, a DIP investigation found the allegation to be true and suspended four of its officials and employees on charges of clearing the passports and affixing signatures to them.
The blue cover official passport is issued to individuals representing the Bangladesh government on official business.
Official passport holders are exempted from visa for their travels in various countries.

The charge-sheet will be submitted before court under sections409/420/467/471 and 109 of the Penal Code and section 5 (2) of the Preventionof Corruption Act, 1947.
