The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment, Forest and Climate Change recommended to enforce the existing law strictly for stopping use of polythene.
The recommendation came on Wednesday at a meeting of the committee at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Md Hasan Mahmud in the chair, an official release said.
Other members of the committee — State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdullah Al Islam Jakob, Nabi Newaj, Md Ihahia Chowdhury and Merina Rahman — attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the committee also recommended to launch mass awareness among the people through highlighting harmful impacts of polythene. It suggested to develop alternative materials instead of polythene bags so that people can use those in their daily life.
The committee recommended setting up stone crushing zone at a safer place away from Jaflong to maintain its attraction of tourism as well as protect environment.
