Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, DhakaAllegations of appointing part time teachers without proper qualification have emerged against Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.
A governing body member has lodged a complaint to the ministry of education, saying that the institution is plagued by an unhealthy condition, reportedly due to dilapidated toilets and an unreliable sanitation system.
On Jul 25 last, governing body member of the school, Dr Mohamamd Tajul Islam, sent a letter to the principal stating that several part time teachers appointed by the school did not have adequate qualification.
The letter also highlighted the lack of coordination among branch heads and college administration, resulting in the deterioration of the standard of education.
Additional secretary of the secondary and higher secondary education board (non govt), Jabed Ahmed, told Bangla Tribune: “Appointing part time teachers is the prerogative of the school authority and since the school pays their salaries, the government cannot interfere.”
However, if there are irregularities detected in running the school, the ministry can take necessary steps, he added.
On Sept 18 last, a letter signed by Anwarul Huq, deputy secretary of the secondary and higher secondary education board, was sent to the school for immediate renovation and upgrading of toilets plus improving the sanitation system.
Attempts to contact the principal, Naznin Ferdous, over phone failed and she did not respond to sms messages.
