Police in Dhaka says they have arrested ten people, including three bank officials their alleged involvement in attempting to leak questions of the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams.
They have been held on Friday during raids on different parts of Dhaka, Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten told the media on Saturday.
According to him, the gang, involved in leaking questions of government recruitment tests, was attempting leak the question for the public exams for twelfth graders.
They used devices, which looks like credit cards and equipped with mobile phone SIM cards to feed answers to test-takers.
“An individual is given two devices— a very small earphone and a device, which looks like a Master Card, through which the fraudsters communicate. The devices are not able to make calls, but receive automatically. The answers are provided during the exams, especially for MCQs,” said senior officer Baten.
Thirteen such devices, known to fraudsters as ‘Master Card Device’, have been found from the ten people.They have been identified as Pubali Bank employee Md Monirul Islam, Sonali Bank IT Officer Asim Kumar Das and Bangladesh Krishi Bank staffer Sohel Akand, Zahirul Islam, Saddadur Rahman Sohan, Nadimul Islam, Enamul Haque Shishir, Sheikh Tarikuzzaman, Arnab Chakrabarty and Arifur Rahman Shahin.
Joint Commissioner Baten said they all have regular jobs, with postings across the country, but used to gather in Dhaka on Fridays.
The gang maintains an office at the capital’s Panthapath, from where they have running operations for at least the last seven years.
Initial interrogations revealed that one Pulakesh Das leads the operations with his accomplice Karzon, who collected the device.
The other members were involved in fetching targets, added the police officer.
