Customs at the Dhaka Airport has confiscated 50 gold bars from a passenger coming from Singapore.
Md Martuza Ali Ansar was held late on Thursday (Apr 5) in possession of gold weighing 5 kg, said Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Ruqba Iffat.Acting on a tip-off, customs officials searched 63-year-old Ansar, who arrived in Dhaka on a Singapore Airlines flight which landed at 10:30pm, said the customs official.
Fifty gold bars, weighing 100 grams each, were found concealed inside the underwear of Ansar, a resident of the capital’s upscale neighbourhood of Gulshan, according to Iffat.
The estimated street value of the confiscated gold is around Tk 25 million, said the official adding Ansar has been handed over to the police.
