New Well Care Hospital is still running with relatives of patients seen on Wednesday (Sept 12). Many of the hospitals in Mohammadpur in Dhaka that have been ordered to shut down for not having licence, are still in operation. Their gates are locked but activities continue inside.

Hospital authorities have said that some of the patients are kept in the institutions for humanitarian reasons. New Well Care Hospital is still running with relatives of patients seen on Wednesday (Sept 12).

The hospital changed location and currently is located within the Rupayan Shelford Tower in Shyamoli.

The guard of the building said there’s a hospital but without a signboard. It was found that decoration work was underway at the new location.

The hospital’s receptionist said that after fixing all the necessary papers, the authority will re-start the hospital.

We have released all the patients and our papers have been submitted for registrations, said manager of the establishment, B M Jahangir.

“Our patients will be transferred to the Dhaka Trauma Centre and will be looked after by the same doctor because he also works there.”

Owner of the hospital, Md. Delwar Hossain, said: “initially, we began the hospital in Rampura as New Care with a licence; but when I changed location plus the name, the magistrate came and shut it down.”

We are trying to start again with a new registration, he added.

New Well Care Hospital is still running with relatives of patients seen on Wednesday (Sept 12). Earlier, this week, a writ was made at court by advocate Manjil Morshed, asking for the closure of fourteen hospitals without licences with the court duly giving the order.

Sheikh Motiur Rahman, medical officer of BDM General Hospital is puzzled to find the name of his institution in the list of 14.

“We have licence; the hospital has been in operation for the last 22 years; this would not have been possible without valid papers, adds Saidul Islam, manager of the establishment.

Despite the closing order, Shefa Hospital and Diagnostic Centre was open. The owners, Alamgir Hossain and Rafiqul Islam, said: “we are still trying to understand the situation; we have licence from the health department.”

If necessary, we will take legal action, they added.
