Government will bear the cost of treatment for the student who lost an arm in a bus accident in Dhaka city, said Health Minister Mohammad Nasim.
Titumir College student Razib Hossain was on his way to college from his Jatrabari home when the accident took place on Tuesday at the capital’s Karwan Bazar.
Police said the 22-year-old was on a BRTC-operated double-decker bus, which was standing at the traffic signal near the fountain at the intersection. When a Swajan Paribahan bus tried to make its way through, Razib’s arm was sandwiched between the buses.
He was rushed to the Shamarita Hospital and transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the next day.
Speaking to the media on Thursday at the DMCH, Minister Nasim said, “He has lost an arm and also suffered injuries on the head. He has been kept at intensive care since last night as his condition deteriorated, but we hope he will fully recover.”
A seven-member medical board has been formed for Razib’s treatment he said before adding that the government will bear all the medical expenses.
“The Samorita Hospital has charged Tk 126,000 for his treatment, which the government will clear,” Nasim said.
Describing the incident as ‘unfortunate’, he said that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
The minister said that the government will arrange a job for Razib after his recovery.
