A court in Dhaka has rejected the bail petition filed by photographer Shahidul Alam in an ICT Act case.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order on Tuesday.
Public Prosecutor Mohammad Abu Abdullah moved against the bail petition while Barrister Sarah Hossain stood for Shahidul Alam.
On Monday (Sept 10), the High Court ordered the lower court concerned to resolve of Shahidul’s bail plea by Tuesday.
On Sept 5, the High Court ordered the authorities concerned to provide Shahidul Alam with first division facilities in jail.
On Sept 4, a judge of another HC bench felt “embarrassed” to hear Shahidul's bail petition in the case. The same day, the bench forwarded the petition to the chief justice for a decision, saying one of the bench members felt “embarrassed” to hear the matter.
The bench, however, did not show any reason for it.
Shahidul Alam was arrested in a case filed under Section 57 of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on Aug 5 night, few hours after he had given an interview to Qatar-based television channel Al Jazeera on the student protests for road safety.
