HC orders to remove illegal infrastructures from Hatirjheel

Hatirjheel, DhakaThe High Court has ordered the authorities concerned to remove all the infrastructures beyond the layout plan of Hatirjheel-Begunbari project within seven days.
The court also asked the defendant to submit a progress report by two weeks. Besides, the HC issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why directives would not be given to stop construction of infrastructures beyond the layout plan and protect the project as per the design.
An HC-bench, led by Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafijul Alam has come up with the order after hearing a writ on Monday.
Advocate Manzil Morshed stood for the writ petitioner while deputy attorney general Amit Talukder stood for the state.
During the hearing, Manzil Morshed said that the government spent billions of taka in Hatirjheel-Begunbari project to make the area an aesthetic place though some infrastructures have been built beyond the layout plan. Besides, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) has not taking any steps over the matter.
The lawyer said a report was published in newspapers on Aug 1 about establishment of structures beyond the layout plan in the project area. Later, the writ was filed on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
