Three disappearances continue to baffleIshraq Ahmed, 20, went missing last year on August 25 from near Star Kabab in Dhanmondi.
Ishraq is a student of McGill University in Canada and came to Dhaka just a few days before disappearing. His father, Jamaluddin Ahmed, lodged a general diary with the Dhanmondi thana with investigation still running.
Jamal Uddin laments: “there are so many law enforcing agencies in Bangladesh but no one could give any information.”
We have become disconsolate and hopeless, he added.
He said that with Ishraq gone without trace, they can only wait at home and pray.
“There’s hasn’t been any progress in the investigation of the GD, the officer has changed and the new officer has not been able to give any clue as to what happened to my son.”
In 2017, several others disappeared, who could not be traced. Of them are: former ambassador, Maruf Zaman, 61, who vanished on 4 December last. Zaman served as ambassador to Vietnam and Qatar, retiring in 2013.
Zaman disappeared on his way to airport to pick up his daughter. The car he was driving was found by police near Khilkhet thana.
On 2 July last, maths teacher of Maple Leaf School, Ferdousi Ekram Fousia, also went missing. Later, her father lodged a general diary at the Kalabagan thana.
Yasir Arafat, acting OC of Kalabagan thana, said: “we are still looking for Fousia; other law enforcers are also working on this.”
