Shahidul AlamOn Tuesday, the high court bench comprising justices, Md. Ruhul Quddus and Khondokar Diliruzzaman looked embarrassed during the bail hearing of detained photojournalist Shahidul Alam under ICT act. Now, according to law, the case will be forwarded to chief justice who will decide the bench for the appeal hearing.

At the court, Alam was represented by barristers Sara Hossain and Jyotirmoy Barua and state was represented by Deputy Attorney General, Mohiuddin Dewan.

Before the bail hearing, the appeal was mentioned by barrister Sara Hossain. At one stage the court said: “one of the justices has expressed unease over the appeal and, therefore, we will not hear it.”

The court expressed its inability to tell barrister Sara Hossain the reason for the embarrassment. At that time, barrister Shahdeen Malik stood up to carry out the hearing for Shahidul Alam but the court said it will not carry out a hearing on the appeal.

Later, barrister Jyotirmoy Barua, told Bangla Tribune: “now it will go to the chief justice and the hearing will be held in a different bench.”

After photographer Shahidul Alam gave an interview to an international media, the police arrested him in a case lodged under the ICT act. For proper investigation of the case, investigating officer, inspector of DB, Arman Ali, requested a ten day remand while barrister Sara Hossain and Jyotirmoy Barua appealed for the revocation of the remand and granting of bail.

After hearing from both parties, the judge ordered a seven day remand. Later, on 28 August, lawyers on behalf of Alam appealed for bail.
