The Bangladesh embassy in Riyadh has suspended two staffers on allegations of torturing a woman, who went to Saudi Arabia to work as a house help.
The embassy, in a press statement on Sunday, said the employees were relieved from their duties as news on torturing housemaid Runa Laila published in media.
It, however, did not disclose the details of the two employees.
Twenty-four-year-old Runa tried to kill herself by consuming insecticide after she landed on Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Saudi Arabia on Aug 28.
Runa told media that she went to the kingdom on Mar 17, 2016, where she had worked as a housemaid for eight months without payment.
Later, she went to the embassy where Lokman, one of the staff, promised to help her and established a physical relationship, she alleged.
Runa also accused another embassy staff, Golam of cheating with her.
“The embassy is committed to ensuring safety and protection to the Bangladeshi housemaids in Saudi Arabia,” said Golam Moshi, Bangladesh ambassador to the kingdom.
“The embassy also shows zero tolerance to any uncalled for activities by its staff,” he added.
A committee was formed to investigate into the allegation.
These staff will face legal action, even may lose their job if found guilty.
