DNCC panel mayor Jamal Mostafa was speaking to the media on Sunday (Sept 2).From Monday next (Sept 3), the roads adjacent to the Tejgaon truck-stand will be free of any obstacles, said DNCC panel mayor, Jamal Mostafa.
He also said that the truck union owners and workers have unitedly promised to keep the roads free.
The panel mayor also visited the area and arranged for the trucks on the road to be removed. He also gave a warning to the truck owners against parking vehicles on the road that impede normal traffic movement.
”We are working with dedication to give material form to the desire of late Annisul Huq of giving us a jam and hassle free Dhaka city,” commented the panel mayor.
He also said that the duty for daily monitoring has been entrusted to DNCC executive officer, Mezbaul Islam.
At this time, the president of the Bangladesh Truck Covered Van Drivers’ Association, Talukdar Md. Monir, said: “we have promised to remove all trucks from the road tomorrow.”
In Tejgaon, a road in the name of Annisul Huq will soon be inaugurated, said Jamal.
In 2015, the then DNCC mayor, Annisul Huq, faced the wrath of the truck workers when he went to free the roads; however, Huq remained adamant and, eventually, the road was freed.
But after his death, taking advantage of a lenient attitude of DNCC, large parts of the road were re-occupied.
