Doctors have advised for following preventive measures as the death toll in dengue fever rose to 9 this year.
In the latest report on the death caused by dengue, two quinquagenarian women died in Dhaka on Aug 8.
“As many as 2,271 people, who suffer from dengue disease, underwent treatment this year including that of 1,054 patients in August alone,” said Dr Ayesha Akter, in-charge of the Health Directorate’s National Health Crisis Centre and Control Room.
According to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B), aedes mosquitoes, the bearer of dengue and chikungunya, outbreak in Dhaka between June and October every year.
“So far 90 people suffering from dengue have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with 77 have already been discharged,” DMCH Director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin told Bangla Tribune.
Currently, no dengue patient undergoes treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), but its authorities have kept four beds ready in case of emergency.
Authorities at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (SSMCH) opened a separate outdoor to treat the dengue patients. Indoor treatment, however, remains as usual.
Doctors advised for preventive measures in order to protect from the attack of dengue fever.
“Houses need to keep clean in addition to the regular use of mosquito net while going to sleep,” Dr ABM Abdullah told Bangla Tribune.
Abdullah, who is the chairman at BSMMU’s Medicine department, also advocated for individual as well as administrative campaign to raise awareness on dengue fever.
