Rakibul Hasan Rocki of Laxmipur was employed in a private company. On December 6 last year, 7/8 people from the old court road area of Laxmipur city were forced to take him to a white microbus. After getting no trace of Rocki, his father Tofail Ahmed filed a general diary (GD) at Laxmipur Sadar Police Station. The law enforces agencies could not rescue him in six months. After six months and 6 days of abduction, the kidnappers left him beside the Dhaka-Raipur highway in Baghbari area of the city bind his hands and eyes. Later, a rickshaw puller saw him and took him home.
Rocki's father Mr Tofail Ahmed told the Bangla Tribune, ‘We are poor people, we eat for labour. My son was never in any conflict with anyone. Why was he kidnapped? Many have seen that Rocki has been taken by the vehicle of a law enforcement agency. But none of them acknowledged. Still, my son is in panic. He said, after coming back, the police took him to the court for confessional statements. He did not contact again. '
After returning, Rocky did not say anything. Who or where did he take? There was no progress in the investigation on GD in Laxmipur Sadar thana for abduction. Laxmipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mr Lokman Hossain told the Bangla Tribune, "He could not say anything after the rescue of the victim. If he could say something, then we could go further. In fact, we are trying to find out what happened actually.
Meanwhile, a doctor from Laxmipur, Mr Mohammad Iqbal Mahmud came to Dhaka on 10 October last year for training of two months at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). On October 15, he was abducted from the science laboratory junction area. The kidnappers left him at Laxmipur on 1 June this year after the incident. Besides Laxmipur Police Station, Dhanmondi police station also investigated the case. Even he did not share about his kidnapping. After returning, Iqbal Mahmud told his family and journalists that they gave him three meals regularly. Even they gave time to prayers but did not torture. The law enforces agencies could not able to unwrap the mystery of the abduction.
Iqbal's father Nurul Alam told the Bangla Tribune, My son cannot say anything. After the incident, we suffered much. We got him back with the help of everyone. He's fairly good now.’
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police investigated Dr Iqbal's kidnapping case after Dhanmondi Police Station. At last the case was investigated by Ratan Krishna Nath, Assistant Police Superintendent Police Crime Investigation Department (CID). After the recovery of Iqbal, the investigating officer took him to court and confessed to him. After this, the family was not contacted by the police. There is no progress in the case.
On June 30, a local resident Juwel disappeared mysteriously after the purchase of sweet from Syed Hatem Ali College Chowmatha Bazar in Barisal City. Jewel's elder brother H.M. Abdullah Hemel filed a general diary on July 1 at Kotwali Model Police Station. After coming back, the police questioned him, but he did not want to say anything about this matter. His elder brother H.M. Abdullah Hemel did not want to comment when he was contacted by the journalists.
Last year, on December 1, four youths named Safayet, Pavel, Sujon, and Mehedi disappeared after eating food from the Northern Cafe in Banani's Kacha Bazar (Banani’s vegetable market) area. Among them, Safayet and Pavel were the students of North South University. Although Safayet has a break in his study recently and Pavel is in the last semester of Electric and Electronics Department. Four of them came back separately. But no one could say where they were. Law enforcement agencies also could not provide any information about them.
Meanwhile, in April 2014, the chief executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) Mr Abu Bakar Siddique and in March of 2016, technologist Mr Tanvir Joha was kidnapped. They both came back later but they did not share the information about who took them away. Besides, in June 2010, the former 56 Ward councillor Chowdhury Alam was abducted from Farmgate Indira Road and BNP leader Ilias Ali disappeared on April 17, 2012. None of them has been found so far. BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin was abducted from Uttara in Dhaka in early March 2014. Around two and a half months later, on 11th May, he was roaming in the Shilong's Golf Link area and after a phone call, he was arrested by the police. Yet he was not brought back to the country.
