As many as 21,000 cleaners of Dhaka South and Noth city corporations have engaged in cleaning the waste within next 24 hours across the capital on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Around 40,000 tonnes of waste were likely to be generated as nearly 500,000 cattle would be slaughtered across Dhaka, sources at the city offices said.
Both the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) cancelled Eid holidays of their employees as parts of their plan to clean waste within 24 hours.
“All preparation is set to remove waste within next 24 hours,” DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon told the media while inaugurating the cleaning programme.
The DSCC and the DNCC authorities announced the massive waste cleaning operation at 2pm on Wednesday simultaneously.
The city corporations jointly opened a hotline 09611000999 to help the city dwellers.
500 containers, 90 container carriers, 72 dump trucks, 53 compactor, 125 open trucks, four trailers, 17 loaders, and 27 water tank trucks along with others vehicles have been deployed across Dhaka city as part of the cleaning operation.
