The Muslims are all set to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on Wednesday across the country with the trading of cattle not reaching at its peak.
Besides the cattle markets in the capital, people are also buying sacrificial animals from different farms.
‘Price’ became the driving factor as price of beef per kilogram went up to Tk 2,500.
Sadeeq Agro, one of a few cattle farms in Dhaka, imported seven bulls from Texas, United States to sell during Eid-ul-Azha.
The biggest bull, ‘Bahadur’ was sold for Tk 2.8 million while another one weighing 1.1 ton was sold at Tk 2.5 million.
Comparing the weight and the sale price, one kilogram meat of Bahadur cost Tk 1,866 while cost for the other is Tk 2,272.On visit at the capital’s Gabtali cattle market, a behemoth bull, ‘Razababu’, was seen with a hefty price tag of Tk 3m, which was as tall as 13 feet and weighed nearly 2.94 tonnes.
Taking the weight and the price into account, meat of ‘Razababu’ is likely to cost Tk 1,432 a kilogram.
Another bull ‘Kalamanik’, weighing 1.68 ton, has a price tag of Tk 2m costing Tk 1,190 a kg.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, a city butcher said, “30kg out of 100 kg of a bull go to waste that in other words increases the price.”
Owners claimed that the price is a bit high this year as the maintenance cost of a bull went up to Tk 100,000.
Chhannu Mian, who owns ‘Razababu’, said, “Big bull needs to feed better food, so the price becomes high. I have been taking care of it over the past two years.”
Price of ‘Razababu’, weighing about 2.12 tonnes, went up to Tk 1.8 million
To date, ‘Razababu’ is the biggest bull in the Gabtali cattle market, claimed Mian, who hails from Manikganj.
